And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with him. Then Peter answered, and said to Jesus: "Lord, it is good for us to be here! If you wish, I will make three tents here; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying: "This is my Son--the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him." And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.
And Jesus came and touched them, and said: "Rise, and do not fear." And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, save Jesus only. And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying: "Tell the vision to no man until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."
=============
O wondrous sight! O vision fair
Of glory that the Church shall share,
Which Christ upon the mountain shows,
Where brighter than the sun He glows!
From age to age the tale declares
How with the three disciples there
Where Moses and Elijah meet,
The Lord holds converse high and sweet.
The law and prophets there have place,
Two chosen witnesses of grace,
The Father’s voice from out the cloud
Proclaims His only Son aloud.
With shining face and bright array,
Christ deigns to manifest that day
What glory shall be theirs above
Who joy in God with perfect love.
And faithful hearts are raised on high
By this great vision’s mystery;
For which in joyful strains we raise
The voice of prayer, the hymn of praise.
O Father, with the eternal Son,
And Holy Spirit, ever One,
Vouchsafe to bring us by Thy grace
To see Thy glory face to face.
